The World Wildlife Fund

The World Wildlife Fund ( The W.W.F. ) has been working hard to protect freshwater seals such as the Saimaa ringed seal, which has only 360 of them left. They are dying mostly because they can't find many snow banks. You see, the seal gives birth in a lair that they dig into the snowbanks, and if there aren't any snowbanks, then the pups are born on open ice, exposed to predators, cold an human disturbance. which means up to half of the pups could die. So what the W.W.F. does is build snow banks for the seals to increase in population. The W.W.F. is slowly progressing in this because now there is about 380, I know that it may still be a small number, but at least it is still progress. Thanks for reading and make sure to leave a comment!

The Amazing Cactus

New Zealand has lots of Beautiful plants from the small Fern to the Enormous Rimu trees! But There are just as cool and weird things in the African dessert. the Cactus for example, can survive in the dessert with an Astonishing 3 ml of water each day! Imagine how much the Cactus would have in a year! probably about 1,095 ml's!
I figured it out because I just tripled 365. Thanks for reading and make sure to leave a comment!

The true story of the three little pigs

For reading we had to write fairy tale with ourselves inside, I put myself in the story of the three little pigs. I hope you like it and make sure that you leave a comment!

Have you ever heard about the three little pigs? Because if you have, then here is the true story.
On a sunny morning in spring, I decided to wear my wolf costume to school, everyone liked my
costume, but I noticed that not everyone was here, The three little pigs weren’t here to see my
epic costume! So when no one was looking, I crept out of class and went looking for them, I
didn’t know where their house was, so I kind of got lost, I was wondering in the woods when I
saw Three little houses, one made of straw ( which I am allergic to ), one made of wood ( which
I am also allergic to ) and one made out of bricks ( which I am not allergic to ).

I walked up to Lucy’s house( the one made of straw ) and tried to look through the window to
see if she was home,  but she wasn’t, on the way to check on Jeffreys house I sneezed, and
when I sneezed, Lucy house toppled over.

so I went to Jeffreys house, but he wasn’t home either, his house was made of wood, and I
am allergic to wood so I sneezed and his house fell too.

Last but not least, Jeff’s house, Thankfully his house was made out of brick, so there was no
way that I could sneeze this time, and even better, they were all in his house! But when I
asked to come in, all they said was “ Not by the hairs of my chinny chin chin!”, I couldn’t
understand why they were being so weird, So I said “ So i’ll HAAH, HAAH, CHOO!!!’, I
Sneezed the biggest sneeze in my life! turned around to see what was making me sneeze,
and there was a piece of straw tuck to my shoe! I got to close, and then I sneezed again!.
After a few go’s at the door I decided to climb down the chimney, Little did I know that the
pigs dinner was cooking and SPLASH!!! I landed right in their stew and went flying straight
back up! I dashed past the houses, sprinted through the forest and back to class, the good
news was that by the time I got there, It was already home time, the bad news was that all
the other kids saw my poor burnt tail!

Attitude

This afternoon, a person from Attitude ( A company ) came to talk to us about our personality. He said that a group of psychologists studied peoples personality, he said that there are 4 main types of personalities, they just named them after animals, Here are the names and meanings:
Otter: Joking, funny, energetic
Lion: Taking charge, being a role model/leader
Golden retriever: Kind, Caring, and Calm
Beaver: Listens, Serious, and follows instructions

These are all the animals/personalities that he taught us.
He also taught us to never think that you aren't normal enough, because no one is normal, everyone is unique and different, so it is good to be different.

Sailing

We went sailing for a class trip last friday. The next day for writing we
had to do make recount on what we did, here is my recount. I hope that you
like it and make sure that you leave a comment!

Last week on friday, we as a class went sailing at lake Rua. When we got there our
instructors taught us how to to “ Rig “ The boat. fIrst we had to learn the names of all
the parts The Bomb, the Rudder, the tiller, the hiking stick, the sail, the center board and
the spirit. Afterwards we learnt how to put them together, it was tricky trying to remember
all the things to do, so the instructors somehow read my mind and decided it was easier
to learn bit by bit.

Firstly we had to put the sail into its place. Afterwards we had to connect the bomb
to the sail, then they taught us how to tie a knot on the mast so that it doesn’t just slip
through the pulleys. We learnt a whole lot in only a few minutes, and we weren’t even
done yet!

When we finally got to actually get into the water so that we could sail, I found out
that we could only have three boats at a time, I was sad because I had to wait a
super long time, but When it was finally my turn to sail, I had the time of my life! It
was nice and windy when I took off, and the sun was so unbelievingly hot that day
That I felt like I was in a microwave!

Straight after everyone had a go at sailing we had lunch, I had two
croissants with lettuce, ham and cheese in my lunch, It was delicious.
It wasn’t the end of the sailing trip just yet though, we still had a little play around,
luckily for us, we bought a few bouncy balls a cricket set, tennis balls and some
ping pong rackets. I played cricket for a while but then I changed and played a game
that my friends made up, It’s like tennis and volleyball combined.

Once our little play was over we went sailing again, but this time we were
allowed to have six boats at a time on the water! My friend Thom had  two turns
on his boat, I had 10 goes and my friend Zack had 17 goes on his boat altogether!
That's more than eight times the amount Thom had! After sailing we took our boats
a part and than drove back to school, I had two whole seats to myself!

We got to school at around 2:45 and we were allowed to play in the playground until
it was  time to go home.

Athletics

We have been working on recounts for the past week or two and I wrote about athletics Day.
We had athletics so I
decided to write about it for my recount. I hope that you like it
and make sure that you leave a comment!

Athletics Day

On Friday we had athletics day, there was a range of sports we did, like Shot Put,
Discus, Sprints, high Jump and more. My favourite was sprints, discus and high Jump.

Firstly we ( The year five boys, we were doing it in age groups ) Did long Jump,
First in line was Corbin, he got around 2 meters, we had to get to three meters in
order to make it to Zones, After him it was my turn I jumped 2 meters and 96 cm,
In other words I was 4 cm close, the closest yet! But it was only a matter of time when
someone beat me, His name is Zack, he Jumped 2 meters and 98 cm! 2 cm in front of
me! Now I was in second place now, but then zack was Beaten! My friend Alize beat him
and got 3m and 16 cm! He is now able to go to Zones. I wasn’t really surprised, because Alize
is quite an athlete!

Next it was Discus, as I already mentioned it is one of my favourites, Again it was Corbin first,
he threw 5m, Unfortunately we weren’t old enough to go to Zones for this one, anyway. The
teacher
running Discus put us in an order that we were to stay in until relays, again Corbin was first, then
some other kids until it was finally me, I threw about 7.03m, which was the furthest, but Alize beat
me once again by about 2 meters! I was stunned! Soon enough we headed off to Shot put, then sprints.

I absolutely love sprints, Last time I came second in the 50 meter sprints and first in 80 meter
sprints. Mrs Walters ( Our instructor ) Put us in three rows, this was because she was timing
us to see if we could make it to Zones or not, and because it would be easier to remember three
times at ones instead of 9. First it was Jonathon Eamon and Corbin on the fifty meter, then me,
Rhys and Louis, I came first, Louis came second and Rhys came last. Then Alize, Thom and Toby
ran, and then we started again, Jonathon Eamon and Corbin, then me Rhys and Louis excetra,
everything went the same except for one thing, we ran 80 meters, last but not least we ran 100
meters, I came first out of everyone and maybe qualified for Zones.

Then it was lunch time and afterwords, relays.

My Holidays

In the Holidays I went to Hoyts Cinema to watch Small foot. My Mum gave me and My sister Jedi ( Make sure that you check her blog out too ) Some money so that we could go to Pack'n'Save and buy some things before we went to the movies, I got A drink, Chewing Gum and some Liquorice. Anyway, back to the movie, I like it because it was really funny. I would definitely recommend this for whoever reads this post. They thought that the stones protected them, so they wrote down all these silly things onto the stones that they thought was true, For example, they thought that they fell out of the " Sky Yacks " Butt and when they found out that most of the stones weren't true, then they asked If they did really fall out of the sky yacks butt, and the chief said no, So they replied " But then who's butt did we fall out of!? "

My Diorama

In Rimu we have been reading this book Called refugee. We were given a set of activities and I chose to do a Diorama with my friends Jonathon And Louis, This Diorama had to be based on something in the book. In the book currently, a taxi came and picked up Mahmoud ( One of the 3 main Characters ) and promised that he would take them to a country where there is no war, but instead, he stopped in the middle of nowhere, got out of the car pointed a pistol at them and demanded for 300 euros ( Which is 529.7 NZ Dollars  ), and even after they gave it he got in the car and just drove away. So I and my friends decided to do a Diorama on that. I hope that you like it, and make sure that you leave a comment!

My 10 minute writing test

This week we did a 10-minute writing challenge and we were given 2 topics. The first one was about " How did this man get stuck in the wall? " ( Don't worry, It isn't a real Man, it is just a statue ) and the second topic was about " if a Shoe could talk, what would it say? " and we had to make a diary entry.
There is a picture of the statue just below the writing. Hope that you like it!

P.S. My writing is under the picture, Just so that you know : )
I think that he was a Tar statue robber, here is my story to explain why I think that:

It was a hot day in China, everyone was outside, everyone except for Noah. Noah was a
statue, a statue made of tar. He would just stand there, waiting for a bird, for something to come and keep him company. He obviously couldn’t move, Well, that was
until today. The sun was so hot it melted him off his stone, he could move
through objects and burn objects. He took advantage of what had happened,
but not in a good way. He went, stealing and burning houses and its furniture,
there had to be something done. The people are in the village devised a plan to
stop this monstrosity once and for all, they tried all sorts including, nets and water, but
it didn’t work. The people just ran out of ideas when a wise old man came in, he said to just wait
for the afternoon and for the sun to go down. So they did. The statue tried to run through a wall, but
the wind picked up and he froze in the wall, the great wall of China.

The End

Dear diary,

I am brand new and as soon as my human got me he flattened me! He also through
me in a puddle,
Mud
And something that I would rather not talk about.
I wonder What I did to him that made him so mad at me, and worst of all,
he acts like he doesn’t even notice me! I just wish I could go on holiday,
relax in the sun and all that, but instead, here I am giving all my time up in
the word for my ungrateful overweight owner! I wish that I could talk like him
to express myself, but sadly, I can’t. No offence, but I can’t imagine you to
understand, because you are a book sort of thing, he writes in you and
appreciates you, Unlike me. Sometimes I get bitten and wet my his
pet dog, Cat, once Cat even took a big chunk out of my tongue! For my
human that sounds really yucky because he has an actual tongue, while I
have only a fake one to keep him comfortable. Help Me!!!!!

Bald Eagle Reading Work

This week, my reading group have been learning about the Bald Eagle. I learnt that the Bald eagle sometimes eats foxes and even wolves! I also learned that as a Bald Eagle grows, their beak keeps curving and doesn't stop, So they occasionally have to " Chip " it until it turns back to normal. But they also have to make sure that their beak isn't too blunt, otherwise, they will have to wait till it grows back!
Also, when their wings are uneven, they pluck their feathers off the other wing to make sure that it is balanced. There are some more facts in the video somewhere in my slide, Don't forget to comment!

The Trip

On Wednesday we went on a trip to the eco learning space. We were split into two groups, one went in the morning and the other one went in the afternoon. when we got there I learnt how things worked in the factory. My favourite was the machine that separated aluminium from the rest of the rubbish. Do you like star wars? because If you do then you are going to really like this part! so there is a machine that makes a sound like a lightsaber because... It is! they use an infrared light to zap the aluminium and create an electric charge and pushes it on to another role-belt so that it is separated. after that, we went to the eco drop which is a place where you have to look for the signs on the wall ( or anywhere really ) and remember three of them, that was my least favourite one because that was all we did. After that, we went to the eco store ( there is a lot of eco's isn't there! ) and we were given a budget of 500 dollars  and a list to see what to put in our flat, This was my favourite one because I got a gaming console, a piano, a go-kart and a boogie board. and guess what happened on the way back?... We saw the other group ( group two ) on their way there!

My speech

My school had a speech competition last week and my speech was about why the school holidays should be twice as long. How it works: so, everyone had to write a speech ( except the year ones because they are too small so they just have to sing a nursery rhyme ) and present it to their class. The teachers had to pick a person to represent their year level, ( only three people can represent each year level). The three that were chosen had to compete with each other to see who will get first, second or third. Although I wasn't one of those people, my friend Thom was. I was really nervous when I was in the auditions because if I made it through then the whole school would be watching me, and when they were watching me and I made a mistake then I would be embarrassed, I mean who wouldn't be nervous!?

What we have been learning for maths

Hello, in Rimu class in my maths group ( the Alga-Bros ) we have been doing really hard maths, if you look at my blog and think that this stuff is easy, Me and my friend Aliz'e are the only year fives in the group, the rest of them are year sixes and sevens, we are doing equations like: if 2 (g + 2 ) = 14
then what does g = ? ( g = 5 )

thank you

Friday 6 July 2018

My reflection

1. What I am proud of this term: I am proud that I managed to actually finish my writing eastle.
I managed to get more than 250 ( I got about 286 or something )

2. What’s worked well: I think that Actually listening on the mat has worked well because
sometimes I normally don’t know what to do.

3. How have I shown my YMS hero Qualities? : I took part in the pack up this time.

4. Are there some things that haven’t gone well for me? : Probably being on the
wrong thing at the wrong time, for example I am always playing nitro type.

5. What challenged me and how did I work through the challenge? :  My challenge
was the eastle maths test, and I made it through because I tried my best

6. What will be my focus for next term:   It will Be to listen some more
and to be on the right thing at the right time
( Obviously, that means no more nitro type ) and not to talk to my friends
when it is time to be on the mat or even when I am doing my work because I
might get distracted and be behind the whole class ( I said that because it has
happened before, and if you don’t believe me then I am just
telling you that I have done it before  )

The Megalodon

 Megalodon sighted on
                        beach in Australia!

Tragedy in Australia as  Lifeguard, known as
Mike Kowalski thinks he has
Sighted a Megalodon, Police
have evacuated the waters
And it will not be opened until further notice.
Here is Mike now describing this deadly creature.

“ I saw It’s dorsal fin, So big that you could
have mistaken it for a curve shaped building,
It’s eyes were so Enormous that It was like
two black holes staring at me, getting ready to suck me

Into the water, And its tail Made such a big splash that It was like an
explosion smashing the water and almost drowning
a Toddler!” That was all Mr Kowalski Could saw
before he fainted and right now as
we speak he is being taken to the hospital.

Right now we have some police looking for
survivors from that astonishing Splash
Made by the Megalodon Shark. That
big splash alone somehow managed
To take 18 lives every single beach in australia
Has been closed until we know that it is safe to
Go again. This this moment Was described as a “Breath taking”
Time at G’day Mate Beach in Australia by Mike Kowalski
Just a few minutes before he Fainted and was taken to the hospital.
As we speak he is recovering from that sensational moment.
This historical time will be recorded in book called
“Amazing Creatures of the deep” which Mr Kowalski Is writing.

Rugby Boots

                   Rugby Shoes

46 students from yaldhurst model school were asked to trial a shoe for a month and report it afterwards. I chose a rugby boot from sfida.

What is Sfida ?

Sfida is a shoe brand that you can find in many shops including:
Rebel Sports
Number one shoes
And so on.

What are rugby boots?

Rugby boots are shoes especially made  for rugby, Obviously.
There are parts at the bottom of the shoes called Studs. These are to help grip into the muddy grass.

If you look at the front of the boots you notice that it is  pointed more than normal shoes, this is so that when you kick the ball in a conversion, your boot can fit under the ball without touching the tee.

Price $

These boots can cost About $24 to $35
because of the expensive material.

Material

The boot is covered in leather so that water may not enter the boot, Under the leather is a cotton material so that your feet don't sweat your feet don't stink when you take them out. On the soul of the shoe there is a nice soft pad so that your shoe gets a comfy fit. Under the boot are things poking out called "Studs". The studs are so that they can grip onto the muddy floor, You can get metal studs or plastic studs.
