Magnificent Mega Air!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Have you ever been to Chipmunks? Mega air? Flip Out?

Well, last night, some of the year 6 to 8's went to Mega Air last night. For those of you that don't know what Mega Air is, I am going to sum it up in pretty much 3 words. Magnificent. Fantastic. Amazing. We had a great afternoon there, and we even stayed there for 2 hours! My favourite part of Mega Air is the dodgeball pit, it was so much fun. Oh yes, I forgot to tell you, theres a dodgeball pit, air bag, halfpipe (In this half-pipe you bounce from side to side, this is made possible because there are trampolines for walls) and lots more!

Overall, I had so much fun. My friends did. My teachers did. Everyone did!

Activity 1: Faster than a speeding bullet

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Are you participating in the Summer Learning Journey?

Well I am, and this blog post is going to be my practice one. My task for this activity is to create 4 new similies. Since that is the activity, then that is what I am going to do. I decided to present my work on google drawings, and this is because I know I can make a list in a creative way. I hope that you enjoy it!

A Day in the life of a...

Kia Ora Bloggers!

What do you do at writing time at your school? Do you even have writing time?

Well, today in Rimu, Just like every other day, we did writing. But unlike any other day, the year 7 and 8s are gone, and unlike any other day, our writing is based on something different. We have to pick a career each morning (this week), and then do all of our work based on that. Here is an example of my writing, which is called 'A day in the life of a soldier', that I made. I think that what we are doing for work this week is really fun, and so far, I have really enjoyed it.

'A Day in the Life of a soldier'
By Sam

 Monday, 05:00 am

“VVVVVVVVVVVVRRRRRRRRRRRRR”, goes the sound of the foghorn. It’s my first day here in the army. I am currently  training to be in the army, and when I signed up, the number one rule was ‘Discipline’. I finally remembered that when I realized that it was 5 o’clock in the morning. That was the morning routine. Wake up at 5 am, make your bed, and get dressed. All in the time of 10 minutes. If we didn’t get it done on time, we would be punished severely.

Mnoday, 05:09 am

My clothes, where did I put them! Oh yes, there they are. I’m rushing, trying to get my things done as fast as I can, and I’m in such a rush that I don’t even realise that my uniform is right in front of me, neatly folded on my bed. That’s another thing about being in the army, Before we go to bed, we have to fold our uniform super neatly.. It’s 9 minutes past 5 in the morning, and I’m still trying to get dressed!  The General will be in here any minute now to inspect our work!

What's inside the box?...

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Have you ever dressed up like your favourite book character? Spiderman? Maybe even an animal?

Well, this week is "Hooked on Books Week" at our school. "What is hooked on books week?", you may be wondering. Well, book week is a week where we get lots of different books each day. In the morning, we get a box, and the teachers pick who gets to open the box by using the popsicle sticks, which is basically just a container filled with popsicle sticks that have childrens names on it. Whoever's name is pulled out of the container gets to open the box.

Anyway, first we got a book called 'The list'. It's about a person named letter, and she is an apprentice for Benjamin, the 'Wordsmith'. What they do, is they make a list of words. Everyone in Ark, which is the name of their... I'm not sure what to call it... Which is the name of their tribe, have to speek the language of 'List'. What Letter and Benjamin do is come up with the new words, or take away some words, for the list. The problem is, Letter doesn't want to speek list, she wants to be free. There used to only be 700 words, but now their leaders are making the wordsmiths lower the words down to 500. Soon Letter is faced with the choice of sitting by and watching as words just casually slip by, or follow a mysterious boy on a path to freedom... Or banishment.

The next two books were: "The Boy who learned to fly", and, "Charlie and the War against the Grannies". The last one sounds weird, doesn't it.

Anyway, I was really filled with curiousity of what the books were going to be, and I can't wait to find out what the next book is!

Pet Day!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Do you have a pet? A dog? A cat Maybe?

Well, last week, both cats and dogs came to our school. Even turtles, tadpoles, chickens - Yes, I did just say chickens - and hamsters came! Plus, There were still more types of animals! And do you know why? It's quite obvious. You don't know why? Oh well, let me start from the title. If you may have already forgotten, the title read... Pet Day! And if the title says 'Pet day', than this blog post is going to be about- NO! NOT RAINBOW UNICORNS! PETS!!!!!.
thats right, now will you listen?

So, as I was saying, it was pet day. We got to make awesome fruit and vegetable sculptures, make our own hobbie horse, and lots more! For my sculpture, I carved a face out of an apple, gave it a mohawk, arms, and legs. Overall, I had a whole lot of fun, and I know that everyone else did too!

The A&P Show!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Have you ever been to a fair? Yes? No?

Well, on thursday last week, My class and I went to the A&P Show! For those of you out there who don't know what the A&P Show is, It is kind of like a fair. There is a whole lot of things there. There were bouncy castles, animals, motorbikes, lollies, fast food, and a whole lot of toys. I really, really enjoyed the time we spent there, It was just so fun!

I got to go in a group with my friends, Alvin, Eamon, and Thom, and we went in Alvins car in order to get there. When we got there, I saw that the place was crowded with cars and other people who had come to the fair. I got myself a necklace, and I really like it. There were lots of cool cars out there for display, and one of my favourites was the Chevrolet Camaro zl1. I'm not sure if I had a favourite part of the show, because I really liked it all. Overall, I had an amazing time.

YMS Goes to Town!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Did you go to the Symphony Orchestra in Town?

Well, today my whole school and I went to town. First we went to the Town Hall to watch an AMAZING concert. I will add some videos in at the bottom, and you HAVE to watch them! Anyhow, After that we went to Margeret Mahy playground, where my friends and I played a game of tag and lots of other things.

Overall, I had a whole lot of fun. I can see that my friends had lot's of fun too, and that is for two reasons. One: They too also posted this on their blog. And two: They were talking about the trip even after we got to school. I mean, it's not everyday that your whole school gets to go to watch a concer, and then straight after that walk to a big park!

My Fantatic Future House!

Kia Ora Bloggers!
As a kid, have you ever drawn your dream house?

Well, today for home learning I decided that it would be a good idea to create my future house! It took me a while to decide whether to create it on a website called 'Planner 5D' (it is a link) or just create it on paper. But in the end, I decided just to draw in on paper. I liked the idea of drawing my own future house, because it meant that I could just draw anything I wanted on the piece of paper.
It would be nice If I got some feedback on my drawing.

Amazing Athletics!

Hello Bloggers!

Do you like to play sports? Sprints? High-jump perhaps?

Well, on Wednesday this week, we got to do... ATHLETICS! Athletics was supposed to happen on friday last week, but let's just say that the weather wasn't at it's best. Anyway, I was pretty excited when I was told that we were wearing our house colours (Blue, Red, Green, and Yellow), so I just wore a yellow shirt (because I am in Ormsby, the yellow house) and black and white shorts. I made sure that what I wore was suitable for the events that we were having, this was so that it would be easier to move around.

What I mostly enjoyed about athletics day was probably... Hmmm... everything! But if I had to pick two favourite sports on the day, I would pick sprints and high-jump. In sprints, I just managed to grasp the placing of 3rd place, and in high-jump, I managed to get second place. Oh, I almost forgot. The sports that we did were:

Sprints, High-Jump, Long-jump, Discus, Shot-put, and relays.

My Weather Report

Kia Ora bloggers!

What's the weather like at your place? Sunny? Is it raining?

Today for home learning I decided to create my own weather report. I decided to do this because I thought that it would be fun to make a video, and I was so right about that. Shout outs to Corbin, who helped me by filming.

Anyway, it would be great if I could get some feedback, and you can do that by commenting in the comment box below.

Poem? Or Picture? Or Both?!!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Today for my home learning blog post, I decided to create a poem and a picture to go with it. I was kind of excited when I found out about this activity, because I like making poems.

I decided to present my work on google drawings because it had just enough space to fit all my work. It would be great if you could give me some feedback. My poem is called 'I wish', and I hope that you enjoy it!

Street Art!

Kia ora bloggers!

Have you ever gone for a drive through town, and found out that there have been lot's of cool paintings everywhere?

Well, In Rimu this term, we have been learning about street art. There are lot's of different types of street art, some are really creative, some are just plain wacky! Anyway, I think that people do street art for three different reasons. Reason number one - Some people probably just do it for fun. Reason number two - Some artists probably just want to show off their skills and make the world more colourful. And finally, reason number three - I think that some people just want to fill in the plain, boring buildings with more colour.
It would be amazing if you guys could post a comment on what reasons you think people do street art for.

New School Uniform!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Today for home learning I decided to create a new school uniform! I was SOOOO pumped when I found out that I was allowed to do this. That was because I really like drawing, whether it is on paper or online.

I decided to create both the sports uniform and normal uniform. My favourite out of the two is the sports uniform, this is because I like sports, and I know that it is better to wear the suitable clothes (sports uniform) for it than to wear the casual uniform.
Either way, I am proud of both of my creations, and I hope that you like it too!

Athletics!!!!!! (Practice)

Kia Ora Bloggers!

What Sports do you like? Rugby? Basketball? Well, I like both of those sports, but sadly none of those sports are involved in athletics (At School). I'm still fine with that though, because I really like athletics. Anyway, Next week we will be doing athletics, and I am SOOO pumped! My favourite sports in athletics is sprints, because I really like running. High Jump is pretty fun to, and so is long jump, in fact, I like all of the sports in athletics!

Last Year, I managed to make it into zones for sprints and the 1000 meter run, they were both really fun.

Yesterday, My classmates and I did some practicing, it was really fun. I can't wait for next week to come!

Happy Blogging!

Here is a photo of me at zones for athletics.

A Picture Paints a Thousand Words!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

What do you think of the picture below? Does it remind you of anything?

Well, I've asked myself those same two questions, and I'm going to explain what it makes me think of. At first, I couldn't really think of what to write, but in the end, I got it. The picture below makes me think of how the world used to be (the right side of the picture), abundant in plants and animals and fruits. And how it is slowly becoming due to climate change and other things (the left side of the picture). Please leave a comment on what the picture reminds you of.

Amazing Poetry!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Have you ever created your own poem? If you have, what is it about? Well for writing this week, we have been working on poetry.

Our teachers showed us a few videos of people reading their poems and gave us some poems that were written by Pie Corbett and Valerie Bloom, who are both very good poets. Anyway, today we had to create our own poem, and I called my one 'Cake'. It would be amazing if you could leave some feedback on my poem, thanks!

Happy Blogging!

There’s cake there’s cake,

It’s everywhere,

All sorts of toppings in my hair,

I can’t decide which one to eat,

My tummys full, oh what a treat!

I dance around, with delight,

I really want another bite

It’s time for lunch,

Oh I can’t wait,

I go to the kitchen and get a plate.

It’s calling me, it’s calling me,

What’s for lunch?

I want to see,

Is it roast chicken?

Or fish soup?

Sandwiches?

A Cantaloupe?

Oh wait, no way!

It’s cake, no fake

I wish we had this everyday!

Future Or Past?

Kia Ora Bloggers!

If you had the chance to go time traveling in Doctor Who's 'TARDIS' ('TARDIS' is the name of his time traveling machine), where and when would you go? Today for home learning I have decided to present my work on Biteable because I know how to use the website. I don't really know where and when I'd go, In fact, I would probably just not use the time machine at all and stay home with my family instead. My reasons for that are in the video below, so make sure that you watch the video! It would be great if you could leave a comment of where and when you would go if you had the chance to time travel.

The Hardy Boys!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

What book have you recently read? Tom Gates? Nancy Drew? Well I've been reading a series of books called 'The Hardy Boys'. It's about these two boys, Frank and Joe Hardy, and they are secret agents, working for ATAC, which stands for 'American Teens Against Crime'. Frank is the oldest (18 years old to be exact, Frank is one year older than Joe, meaning that Joe is 17), smartest, and maturest out of the two brothers, and Joe is the more sporty, less smart, and annoying little brother (According to Frank). Since this series of books are my favourite, I decided to make a book report on them for Home Learning. I was Super excited when I found out that I could create a book report, because I had read the perfect book to put on my blog! Some of you that have read my blog before may be thinking, "If he was so excited to make a book report on 'The Hardy Boys', then why didn't he just do it in his last book report?". This is because I just started reading the series (And I all ready love it!). I decided to present my book report on Google Drawings because there is enough space to fit in a picture and some words.

Marathon!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Have any of you reading this blog post ever run a marathon? Well guess what... We Have!

Just yesterday we did the last few laps of our marathon. You see, a few months ago we started a marathon. It wasn't really a proper marathon, seeing as we didn't run the whole thing first-try. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we had to run three laps of the rugby field, which was equal to 1 kilometer. Or so we thought so. After doing that for a few weeks, we realized that three laps of our rugby field was actually equal to 1.7 kilometers! So technically, we ran more than a marathon. But anyway, yesterday was the day that we did our last kilometer, and for our perseverence, we got to get a medal, ice blocks, and certificate! Luckily, I was the first person to finish the marathon, and it was quite tiring. I decided

Who Would You Choose?

Hello Bloggers!

'Who Would You Choose' if you had the chance to invite not just one, but three celebrity's to dinner with you? Today I m going to be asking myself that question. For Home Learning today I am going to be righting (pretend) invitations to the three celebrity's that I would invite to dinner. I decided to invite Bear Grylls, Michael Jordan, and Ed Helms. Hope you enjoy!
